Types of Family Visas
Family visas are primarily based around a sponsorship by a relative who is a lawful permanent U.S. resident. The resident can sponsor an immigrant after demonstrating the ability to support the immigrating family member.

Spouse of a U.S. Citizen
A spouse is defined by the government as a legally wedded husband or wife.
Unmarried Child Under 21 Years of Age of a U.S. Citizen
If a young child is proven to be the offspring of a lawful U.S. citizen, he or she may be sponsored by his or her parent.
Orphans adopted abroad by a U.S. Citizen
Orphans may be sponsored by their adoptive parents. When an orphan is adopted from another country, an agreement must be reached between the laws of both countries involved.
Parent of a U.S. Citizen who is at least 21 years old
A U.S. citizen who is at least 21 years of age is able to sponsor his or her parent.
